BOOKSTORE RETURNS ON POD BOOKS? WITH LLUMINA PRESS-YES.

FORT LAUDERDALE, AUGUST 2003: It has finally happened! Llumina Press is leading the industry by offering returnable POD books to booksellers everywhere. After months of negotiation, Llumina Press, in cooperation with Springboard Logistics, has made it possible for print-on-demand books to compete with those published by the big boys. Now POD authors can have every opportunity traditionally published authors have, including returnability through Ingram and bookstore representation.

Traditional publishers take returns on books, so a major stumbling block in the POD arena has always been the lack of returnability. It used to be that bookstores didnt want these books-but not because they werent any good. Book retailers have been afraid to put them on their shelves because they couldnt be returned. Now, Llumina Press offers returnable books to all of those stores that wanted the books, but couldnt take the risk.

And here comes the best part: Bookstore representatives across the country will carry Lluminas new catalog of returnable books to some 2500 book retailers nationwide. Between returnability and bookstore representation, Llumina has put together a plan that adds up to the writers holy grail: Bookstore Distribution.

Llumina started out by solving the quality issues inherent in POD, demanding that all their books be well written and edited-even if that meant publishing fewer books. Then they discovered a whole new dilemma: the fact that POD books are not returnable. This major obstacle had to be eliminated, and they looked for way to make books returnable via the wholesale channel. Were thrilled to have found the solution," says publisher Deborah Greenspan. Returnability is a necessary component of success for both the POD author and the bookseller."

Although Llumina Press doesnt work like a traditional publisher, they are now able to offer some significant benefits not available through other POD publishers. We still know a good book when we read one," says Greenspan. And there are a lot of good books out there that just can't get through the gate-keepers of big business. But we have the key."

Llumina Press, a division of Media Creations Inc., partners with writers to produce better books. Unlike almost all print-on-demand publishers, Llumina insists that each book meet exacting editorial standards, and is now able to offer returns processing through Ingram as well as bookstore representation across the country. The companys goal is to publish, and help authors market, quality books.
