MAISONNEUVE TO PUBLISH CHILLING WHO KILLED DANIEL PEARL?" TRANSLATION
MONTREAL, CANADA (PRWEB) August 25, 2003 --- An exclusive excerpt from the explosive and highly anticipated book Who Killed Daniel Pearl? will appear in English for the first time in the Fall 2003 issue of Maisonneuve magazine, on newsstands nationwide September 11th.
Described by Norman Webster, columnist and former editor-in-chief of The Globe & Mail and The Montreal Gazette, as eerie, brutal, and tragic", the excerpt shows in the simplest manner possible the human cost of inhuman politics. The murder of Daniel Pearl will leave you cursing the darkness and weeping for a good man."
Who Killed Daniel Pearl? has caused a sensation in Europe, where it has shot up bestseller lists in France and generated extensive coverage in the international media. The book retraces Pearl's final days and suggests the Wall Street Journal correspondent was on the trail of links between the most violent and most anti-American faction in the Pakistani intelligence service and terrorists who were trading nuclear arms secrets with Iran and the North Koreans.
The book is written by leading French philosopher and journalist Bernard-Henri Lévy. Published this spring in French as Qui a tué Daniel Pearl? (Grasset), its author is accorded the kind of adulation in France that most countries reserve for their rock stars" (The Guardian, Feb. 9, 2002). Lévy has written several books about Asia and the Middle East and served as French President Jacques Chirac's special envoy to Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban.
New York publisher Melville House has just released the English translation. "Beyond the fact that it's an extremely moving tribute to Daniel Pearl, the global implications of what Bernard-Henri Lévy has discovered are evident," says Melville House publisher Dennis Loy Johnson. Publishers always say their books are 'important.' But this one truly is."
Maisonneuve is one of only four publications in the world -- and the only one in Canada -- granted permission to excerpt Who Killed Daniel Pearl?
Other highlights of the Fall issue include:
-The Alcoholic Monkeys of St. Kitts by former New Yorker staff writer and Vanity Fair contributing editor Alex Shoumatoff.
-What is a graphic novel?
-An interview with novelist Russell Smith.
-How to succeed in graduate school without really trying.
-And the real reason why one should not ride shopping carts.
Advance review copies of Maisonneuve (No.5) will be sent out next week and are available upon request (magazine@maisonneuve.org).
