Mansfield, MA -- August 25, 2003 -- New local author Tony Savageau is pleased to announce the debut of A WILD BUNCH ADVENTURE: THE MYSTERY OF THE GOLDEN SKATE (PublishAmerica, $16.95) set in historic Mansfield, Massachusetts. A childrens adventure story that will especially capture the imaginations of kids between the ages of 7 and 12 is wonderfully illustrated by local artist, JoAnne Raditz.
Drawing on his experience as a father and for his fondness of the history that surrounds us all, Savageau has written a story that was inspired by current events and town history. While local children and adults will recognize and appreciate many of the references in the book, everyone who reads this story will be captivated by the adventure and challenges the characters face as they race against time to solve the mystery they have uncovered.
THE MYSTERY OF THE GOLDEN SKATE introduces Joey, Billy and Rose Wild -- The Wild Bunch -- to the reader as their summer gets off to a boring start. Soon, the Wild Bunch discovers there is much more to a well-known landmark -- the Lovell Block Building -- a part of the towns landscape for over 130 years -- than they ever imagined. Hearing noises from above...from a floor everyone thought was abandoned... the childrens curiosity gets the best of them and they investigate. As they sneak upstairs, the kids ultimately discover a single golden roller skate. They set out with their best friends to find the answers to the many questions this single skate unleashes. Can they solve the buildings secret while discovering things about themselves and their town before time runs out?
Children and their parents can be overwhelmed when it comes to the thousands of reading choices facing them today. THE MYSTERY OF THE GOLDEN SKATE combines history and adventure with some of the best elements of the human spirit embodied by cooperation, friendship and everlasting love. This is a book parents and educators can trust will energize their children by stimulating their imaginations, instill an appreciation of the history that surrounds us, and encourage them to embrace reading as activity that is as fun as anything they can find on TV.
