Webshots, the site that popularized online photo sharing, has been named the top photo site, according to a custom data report compiled by Nielsen//NetRatings. Membership Soars to 28 Million Users.

(PRWEB) August, 2003 Webshots, the site that introduced free wallpaper/screensaver downloads and popularized online photo sharing, has been named the top photo site, according to a custom data report compiled by Nielsen//NetRatings.

In a June 2003 Nielsen//NetRatings Custom Report based on the Top 100 Domains, Webshots ranked 1st in unique visitors among photo sites and 69th among all Internet domains. Webshots' unique monthly combined home and work audience of 5.5 million visitors and 243 million pageviews were the largest in the photo category.

According to a custom aggregated list of photo sites selected by Webshots their closest competitor was Yahoo! Photos, with a unique monthly audience of 5 million visitors and 117.5 million pageviews, fewer than half of Webshots' total.

Webshots scored the highest in user loyalty among all photo sites, including Yahoo! Photos, Ofoto, Shutterfly, Kodak, Snapfish and Walmart. " Webshots is very effective in attracting visitors to its site with 5.5 million unique visitors, averaging more than four visits a month" says Nielsen//NetRatings senior analyst Abha Bhagat.

"We offer easy-to-use features and services that make photo sharing fun," said Narendra Rocherolle, co-CEO and founder of Webshots. "While our competitors focus on photo finishing, Webshots provides our community of 28 million registered members with a compelling and unmatched range of photo services.

Webshots' increasing popularity is reflected in the following statistics:

-- The Webshots software has been downloaded over 100 million times.

-- Over 38 million member photos are stored in Webshots albums and have visited in the past six months.

-- Over 120,000 new photos are uploaded to the site daily.

Webshots photos can be viewed: on computer desktops as screensavers and wallpaper, on their wireless phones, and in their own homes and offices as prints. In addition, Webshots offers a number of ways for friends and family to share images with one another -- eCards, online photo albums, and custom prints and gifts -- as well as an image hosting service for eBay sellers.

The Webshots Desktop software is compatible with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP operating systems. A Mac beta version for systems 8.x, 9.x and OS X, was recently released.
