August, 2003 -- It's important to be a good corporate citizen in the local community. By being a responsible corporate citizen, you can create community support for your company. Use these tips to leverage opportunities and get involved in the community.
Voice your organization's opinions and needs to local elected officials and business organizations such as the chamber and other associations.
Inform and engage your customers, stakeholders and advocates on opportunities and issues related to your business.
Get involved in local community efforts. It builds your team, character and value.
Announce new hires in your local, business and chamber media. Also send these announcements to the local chamber, newspaper and business publication. When published, employees feel rewarded and recognized. The community will also have an opportunity to see the talent inside your organization. Your organization will also be viewed as a contributor to the local job market and economy.
Send handwritten notes to your key publics and contacts. This may include responding to personal announcements such as engagements, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and births or business announcements such as mergers, promotions, appointments, growth and new contracts.
