Employees Say It's Not All About the Money.
While the majority of employees say show me the money", a significant number would be happy with a little recognition, according to a recent poll.
August, 2003 -- While the majority of employees (59 percent) say show me the money", a significant number (22 percent) would be happy with a little recognition.
August 2003 Richmond Consulting Group announces the results of a recent employee benefits poll conducted on career-intelligence.com. Everyone likes to be appreciated for a job well done. Particularly, if theyve gone above and beyond whats expected. But, when it comes to getting some recognition its not always all about money.
I was somewhat surprised with the results, said Annette Richmond, principal of Richmond Consulting Group and founder of career-intelligence.com. I expected a bigger majority of our readers to be interested in money. This information indicates that there is no cookie cutter approach. Employers need to find out what motivates each employee."
While the majority (59 percent) would like a monetary reward, a significant number (22 percent) would prefer just to get a little recognition according to the poll. A considerable number of respondents (14 percent) indicated that they would rather get a promotion than money. These are the detailed results:
Recognition: How do you want your boss to show appreciation?
A private word of thanks 12%
Some type of public recognition 10%
A few extra days off 4%
Give me a promotion 14%
Show me the money 59%
This poll ran on career-intelligence.com from June 5, 2003 to July 8, 2003. There were 166 respondents.
