Dancing Addictions: Fringe Festival Feature

The primeTime sublime Community Orchestra and the Starr Foster Dance Project will present a comedic exploration of addictions and cravings in the 2003 Fringe Festival.

Philadelphia, PA -- August, 2003 -- Featured in the internationally acclaimed 2003 Fringe Festival will be the music of the primeTime sublime Community Orchestra with the Starr Foster Dance Project in a collaborative piece entitled Cavity. Performances will take place on September 5th and 6th in The Bumpin' Big Top located at 3rd + Wood Streets (1 block N. of Vine St.).

Cavity is an exploration of addictions and cravings, and the lengths a person will go in order to satisfy them. Performed by Starr Foster Dance Project members Kathryn Harris, Stacey Whitley, and Starrene Foster, Cavity offers a comedic glimpse of an easily exploited and potentially depressing subject.

The music featured in Cavity by the primeTime sublime Community Orchestra is a surrealistic mix of Bluegrass and Free Jazz with bits of cartoon music. A collage of sound bites including cell phones, cash registers, Chinese music, farm animals and TV ads like a Ginsu knife commercial or a Kmart announcement, to name a few, alternate with the music forming a sonic salad of absurdity.

The Starr Foster/Dance Project, formed under the direction of Starrene Foster, is a gifted and powerful group of performers, as well as teachers and choreographers. The Project was formed not only as a performing troupe, but a group that educates and enlightens the general public, young and old, through instructional workshops and lectures about dance, the performing arts and other creative dramatics. The Starr Foster/Dance Project also sponsors special events and provides public performances, which allow other artists, performers and choreographers the advantage to produce and premiere work.

The primeTime sublime Community Orchestra was formed by Paul Minotto in 2000 to perform and promote multi-genre, new music which cannot be defined by any stylistic label or category. Members of the group constantly change and come from a variety of musical backgrounds including Jazz, Classical, Pop, Country and World music. In addition to the strings, brass, woodwinds and percussion, the 5th section of the orchestra is comprised of computers which balance the sound and add another dimension of extramusical ideas.
They take pride in not being able to answer What Kind Of Music Is It?"

Performances of Cavity on Friday, September 5th will be at 7pm and on Saturday, September 6th will be at 10:30 am. The Fringe Festival Box Office is located at 249-51 Arch Street
(telephone 215-413-1318).
