BC Epilepsy Presents Free Workshops to Elementary School Teachers in the Lower Mainland.

BC Epilepsy's "Partners in Teaching" is a pilot program of workshops, library resource kits and teachers' information packages designed to help teachers support children living with epilepsy.

Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) August 31, 2003 -- If you are teaching a child with epilepsy and are wondering about seizures, first aid, peer education and learning abilities, check out BC Epilepsys new 'Partners in Teaching pilot program for elementary school educators.

With the help of educators, support staff, and parents, BC Epilepsy has developed workshops and resource kits designed to assist educators and parents in providing supportive environments for the 7,000 children in BC living with epilepsy.

The Partners in Teaching interactive workshops provide education on epilepsy, seizure awareness, first aid response, and the psychosocial and learning impacts of living with epilepsy on young students.

Approximately 1,800 children living with epilepsy attend elementary schools in the Lower Mainland. In the next twelve months, 75 students attending Lower Mainland schools will be diagnosed with epilepsy.

Most children living with epilepsy wish two things: to have their seizures disappear completely, and to have the teasing stop. To help teachers address the social challenges facing children with epilepsy, the Partners in Teaching resource kits for teachers and libraries include peer education tools such as books, comics and videos.

The Partners in Teaching workshops are available free of charge to elementary school educators in the Lower Mainland and may be presented in 45- 60- and 90-minute formats.

The BC Epilepsy Partners in Teaching team of facilitators is available to present workshops at in-service seminars, conferences, Pro-D days, meetings, before school, lunch, and after school.

BC Epilepsys Partners in Teaching pilot is supported by grants from Variety Club, The Vancouver Sun Childrens Fund Society, Ronald McDonald Childrens Charities, the United Way of the Lower Mainland, and The Chris Spencer Foundation.
