CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR DAVIS NAMES BWOPA STATE PRESIDENT DEZIE WOODS JONES TO THE CALIFORNIA POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION COMMISSION.

Governor Gray Davis recently announced the appointment of Dezie Woods-Jones as a member of the California Postsecondary Education Commission.

Oakland, CA (PRWEB) September 2, 2003 -- Governor Gray Davis recently announced the appointment of Dezie Woods-Jones as a member of the California Postsecondary Education Commission.

Ms. Woods-Jones, 61, of Oakland, has been the Founding Member and State President of Black Women Organized for Political Action since 1971. Ms. Woods-Jones also worked for the Peralta Community College District from 1968 to 2002, serving in various management positions and retiring as Assistant Chancellor of External Affairs in 2002. In 1991, Ms. Woods-Jones was elected to the Oakland City Council and served as the Citys Vice Mayor from 1996 to 1997. She is the Founder of Black Women Organized for Educational Development and the Black Womens Resource Center.

In addition, she was appointed by former Governor Jerry Brown in 1980 to the California Commission on Crime Control & Violence Prevention, and is a member of the Oaklands Education Cabinet, the Association of California Community College Administrators, the Executive Committee of the East Bay Regional Board of Directors for the American Heart Association and is the president of the Oakland Private Industry Council. Ms. Woods-Jones earned a bachelor of arts degree from California State University, Hayward.

As California's planning and coordinating body for higher education under the provisions of the State Master Plan for Higher Education, the California Postsecondary Education Commission serves a unique role in integrating fiscal, programmatic, and policy analysis about California's entire system of postsecondary education. Members do not receive a salary. This position does not require Senate confirmation.
