September, 2003 -- A part-time working mom became the first person in Malaysia, and probably Asia, to set up an internet business selling childrens books reviewed by parents, when her website www.1ChildrenBooks.com was launched recently.

Very often, parents shop for books under pressure from whining and impatient children", said Quah Kim Lan, the founder and mother of a 4½ year-old boy. The books are then chosen based on the title and the illustration of the cover. Once back home, we discover that these books are either not interesting or do not meet our expectation. It can be very frustrating, not to mention the time and money wasted on them".

1ChildrenBooks.com addresses these issues by offering only best-selling childrens books that have been reviewed by parents. Books that stimulate childrens interest and imagination, attractively illustrated with lots of details for discussion, and provide rich vocabulary to help children express their feelings are selected. In line with the governments emphasis on the English Language, these books will help to cultivate the childrens reading habit and improve their command of English. Best of all, you get tax deduction for the amount you spent", added Quah.

The books are sold in packs of 4 to 5 titles and cost just slightly above RM100. Each pack caters to a certain age group. They are also ideal to be given as a gift. 1ChildrenBooks.com complements its products with gift-wrapping services. New packs are launched approximately once every 4 weeks.

Quah explained that extensive research is done to ensure only best-selling books are procured for reviews. Out of these books, only those that meet the criteria are selected for sale.

We love reading these books to our children, aged 3, 6 and 8. Reviewed Pack 1, for example, provides for a range of experiences like peekaboo games, touch and feel and a real cricket sound! Not only do the children enjoy them, my husband and I are fascinated too as these format were not available when we were young. I can now fulfill a part of my responsibility in my childrens language development with a click of a mouse. Its so convenient!" exclaimed Diane Wong, a teacher.

Quah emphasized, We give our 100% in quality control so that our customers are 100% satisfied with our books. We endeavour to live up to being 'The Good Book Place. We want our customers to feel they can rely on us and finally have peace of mind when it comes to their childrens reading requirement."
