Callville Bay, Cottonwood Cove, Black Canyon/Willow Beach River Adventures Are First Marina Operations In National Park Service System To Earn International Environmental Certification

Lake Mead National Recreation Area Concessioners First In National Parks To Be Certified To International Standardization Organization Environmental Management System ISO 14001

Las Vegas, NV, (PRWEB) September 5, 2003 -Callville Bay Resort & Marina on Lake Mead, Cottonwood Cove Resort & Marina on Lake Mohave, and Black Canyon/Willow Beach River Adventures below the Hoover Dam have become the first three marina operations in the National Park Service system to earn the highest recognition in worldwide environmental stewardship-International Standardization Organization (ISO) 14001 certification.
Callville Bay and Cottonwood Cove were the first two properties acquired by Forever Resorts when it was formed in 1981. Black Canyon/Willow Beach River Adventures on the Colorado River, 15 miles below Hoover Dam, was acquired in 2002. The firm itself is ISO certified, and a recognized leader in protecting the environment.
In October 2002, 26 business partners along with Forever Resorts dedicated a new 70-foot houseboat, christened Forever Earth, to be used on Lake Mead as a floating laboratory and educational classroom. A public and private partnership was formed with the Outside Las Vegas Foundation, the National Park Service, the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, and Forever Resorts. This cooperative venture helped designed and equip Forever Earth.
Were pleased with our ISO recognition," says John Schoppmann, Forever Resorts senior vice president of resort operations. And proud that our visitors pitch in to help. Boaters at Callville Bay, for example, turn in an average of 400 pounds of aluminum cans a week for recyling."
Schoppmann credits general managers Randy Roundtree of Callville Bay, Tom Burnside of Cottonwood Cove, and Ron Deeb of Black Canyon, with devising multiple programs to meet stringent ISO standards, educate visitors and inspire employees.
Words and phrases like green, organic, recycling, energy-saving and environmentally-friendly are now part of our vocabulary," says Burnside. And we try to inspire our guests to think the same way. For instance, for employee and guest transportation we provide 103 electric golf carts."
In congratulating Forever Resorts on its achievements, William Dickinson, superintendent of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, said the National Park Service is proud to have a partner that demonstrates a commitment to protecting our resources. Thank you for your continued dedication."
In commenting on ISO, which encompasses firms in 145 countries, Schoppmann says: The firm which audits our environmental policies and goals is the highly-respected Lloyds Register of Quality Assurance."
Callville Bay Resort & Marina is 22 miles from Henderson, via Lake Mead Drive and North Shore Road. Cottonwood Cove Resort & Marina on Lake Mohave is 52 miles south of Boulder City via U.S. 95 and state route 164. A reservation office for Black Canyon/Willow Beach River Adventures is based in the Hacienda Hotel on Highway 93 in Boulder City.
Forever Resorts, a National Park Service concessioner based in Scottsdale, AZ, also operates Lake Mead RV Village, 6 miles from Boulder City, as well as resorts and marinas in 14 other states.
