War Erupts in Gaul 1 BC.

From the Caucus mountains across the plains of Europe a displaced people surged away from the known to establish an existence in the unfamiliar. For many centuries preceding the Christ this people, comprising many tribes, ingrained their wealth, their power and their legacy across the expanse of Europe and beyond. They were 'The Celts. Strong of limb, beautiful of stature and formidable in battle they conquered all they desired until Romes tail flicked its dragon challenge over their land.

In the first century before the Christ Gaul became the target of the covetous Caesar. He annexed, renamed, changed attitudes and spread his Latin plague over the land until some tribes cried, enough! From amongst their ranks arose a leader, a Gallic chieftain who dared withstand the might of Rome. His name was Vercingetorix, son of Celtillus. The pugnacious Julius Caesar eyed this upstart prince with suspicion and affront. War was inevitable.

In The Kelt" Frank James fleshes out the warlord in grand style and reveals the Celts as more than a good-looking people. He presents him to us in his adult life. Shows us how he marries the beautiful Miriatne despite her disdain of his claim. He reveals how life was really lived in the Celtic world, the politics, religion and the eventual unavoidable battle with Rome.

The rest of the story is recorded history but this brave mans name leaps from the pages of history synonymous with the cry of 'Freedom. Scotland has its 'Brave heart in Wallace so Gaul reveres its own hero in one man who united all of Gaul, as none did before, and led it into battle against the tyranny of Rome and Caesar.

An interesting and enjoyable read Franks novel shows insightful research and allows us to dwell for a while, with 'the ancients. So does Brennus famous quote ring down through the ages, Vae Victus!" -- woe to the vanquished.
