KIWE, The Internet Suite for Kids" is an economical solution to protecting children while presenting a plethora of quality resources.
Like all large communities, the Internet is filled with opportunities, good and bad, and with lots of choices. Education, adventure, research, fun and games are all available at the click of a mouse, anytime you want them. But, with the continued growth of this largest of all communities, also comes pornography, hate and intolerance, drug promotion, web predators and information thieves that appear more obvious and more aggressive than ever, especially when their promoters are cloaked behind web sites.
Who is responsible for filtering, segregating and directing all of this information, all of these endless relationships? Not the ISPs, or the search engine providers, not the teachers in our schools or administrators of our libraries. Attempts by well meaning governmental representatives to create legislation to protect our children on-line have been repeatedly shot down in the courts as unconstitutional; being opposed by civil liberties organizations and others; presumably to guarantee the rights of our children to maintain their rights to view pornography, chat with predators, build bombs or buy drugs online at will.
Responsible parents, child advocacy groups and governments seem to be helpless in tempering the flood of inappropriate Internet content that dilutes and corrupts the thinking and moral fiber of our youth and their families.
There are of plenty of Internet filter programs for sale; but according to Consumer Reports, the best of them still allow not less that 20% of all the subterfuge to reach our desk tops.
Childrens browsers are becoming more popular over time, and we have more choices here than ever, but, for the most part they lean towards games, with a minimum of content directed towards meaningful education, and rarely with any features allowing their users to customize, or add or delete content of their choosing.
There are numerous kids portals, some requiring fees, some not. Many of these portals are great, well organized, attractive, and filled with good stuff for kids; but, they operate from within conventional web browsers, designed for adults and easy to get out of, spawn a new adult" browser from, and again no customization features.
After considering all the above, we created KIWE, the Kids Internet World Explorer. An alternative to conventional filters that doesnt require upgrades and KIWE white lists all of its content. Unlike most kids Internet products, KIWE is focused on education and discovery, with a massive selection of portals, sub-portals, directories and web sites directing their content offering to age and grade appropriate information.
You can easily customize KIWE, create your very own personal portals, and block or unblock any site on the Internet. KIWE goes the extra mile in keeping kids safe online, while offering quality content and features useful to everyone in the family. KIWE, The Internet Suite for Kids" is an economical solution to protecting children while presenting a plethora of quality resources. Special resource archives for parents, teachers and librarians are also included.
KIWE is used in hundreds of classrooms by tens of thousands of students, and by families around the globe. KIWE is currently available in English, Spanish, and Italian, continuously online since 1997.
Give KIWE a try at home, in school or at your local library.
