For the eighth consecutive year, Wheeling Jesuit University's Challenger Learning Center ( http://clc.wju.edu ) was honored for having served the most children of the 51 Centers worldwide.
During the 2002-2003 school year, Wheeling's CLC conducted 381 on-site simulated missions, which was the most of any Challenger Center in the network. During the Challenger Centers' annual conference held last month, CLC Assistant Director Jackie Shia and Flight Director Shay VanKirk accepted the award.
"This recognition shows that the teachers and parents in the Ohio Valley care greatly about providing educational opportunities to their young people. As we take this honor for the eighth year in a row, we feel blessed to be on this campus and in the state of West Virginia where education is a top priority," says Nancy Sturm, director of the Wheeling Jesuit's Challenger Learning Center. "This team works hard to provide the best educational programs to students in our area. We keep Christa McAuliffe's dream of teaching from space alive on a daily basis."
"Nine years ago, this Center opened with a goal to improve how teachers teach and how students learn. This award is proof that Wheeling Jesuit's Center continues to impact classrooms in a three-state region," says Shia.
