Music Trends: Tower Records UK picks up indie DIYs
Scrappy indie groups go head-to-head with Big Label artists
PARIS (PRWEB) September 11, 2003 -- French indie label Hex Music/Labyrinthe City is proving that DIY is here to stay; their new album is being picked up by Tower Records UK (www.tower.co.uk) for distribution worldwide.
The group's import album, "Spoonful of Voodoo" is also carried by #1 indie music e-store CDBaby.com.
But the move by Tower shows that indie artists can land name brand distribution without mega-bucks; the Hex album shares online real estate with established artists backed by established labels.
"It's a savvy move on their part," said singer/lyricist [9], "and it lets us compete with artists on the Billboard charts. Indie artists don't have the financial backing necessary to get their albums out there. Distribution is a huge problem; Tower's move levels the playing field, and gives buyers what they've been asking for all along -- the best selection of music possible."
