Los Angeles, CA-Traces of Memories", a new CD single by W. Alex. Mackey, III, originally written for a person Mackey never knew and who passed away in January 2003, is about to gain regional and national exposure.
Alex Mackeys Dad, Bill was the recipient of a liver transplant in January of 2003. The liver came on the day Bill was supposed to start dialysis, due to kidney failure caused by the damaged liver. A couple weeks prior to the liver transplant, Bill asked his son Alex to write a song for the person and family from whom Bill might receive a liver.
Enter the title track, Traces of Memories", a piano solo with light background instrumentals. Add another original piano solo, Jaytee and a beautiful rendition of Silent Night, and you have the CD, Traces of Memories," as it states on the CD cover Dedicated to the person who saved my Dads life,"
Originally, when my Dad asked me to develop this project, I planned on making 10 or so copies on my computer," says Alex. But then I decided to surprise him and had 1,000 copies professionally made, so that he would have copies not just for the family, but for everyone involved in the process." This process" has begun to spread from just the doctors and the donors family to organizations across the country. Backed by Comcast Cable Systems in San Francisco, The California Transplant Donor Network (CTDN), and Transplant Speakers International, Inc. (TSI), a public service announcement is about to roll out in that market and will eventually air in other parts of the country.
When Comcast Cable in San Francisco heard the story and heard the CD they were so impressed, they wanted to help create awareness to become an organ donor and further transplant education, and said they would produce a TV spot and run an ad schedule at no charge," Alex said. Theyve been so supportive about the project. I think they feel that the CD is a great way to create awareness and encourage potential organ donors. Its so simple and could save so many lives."
At one point," Alex continues, My Dad was in very serious condition and the doctors didnt think he was going to make it. The doctor told my Mom, 'People die waiting for transplants. My mom said, 'That may be true, but not this time. She is a very strong woman with a lot of faith."
Alex has donated numerous copies of Traces Of Memories to Transplant Speakers International (TSI) to create awareness and raise money to further education on organ donation. All the proceeds from the Traces of Memories CD will be donated to Transplant Speakers International, Inc.
Harry Congdon of the Transplant Resource Center of Maryland is using the song as a ceremony opener for donor families and recipients later this year. He said, The piano solos are incredible!! I think it will truly touch the donor families."
