TERRACYCLE LAUNCHES ENVIRONMENTAL FUNDRAISING PROGRAM FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS AND ORGANIZATIONS

First Program Participant Launches Campaign to Raise Money While Benefiting the Environment

Princeton, NJ --(PRWEB) September 12, 2003 -- TerraCycle, Inc., a pioneer in the research and development of organic gardening and agricultural products, today introduced the TerraCycle Environmental Fundraising Program, providing local schools, community groups, and religious institutions with a way to raise money while benefiting the local environment. The program centers on TerraCycles unique terracycling" process, in which participants recycle their own garbage to create an all-natural plant growth product, and sell it to family, friends, and neighbors. 50% of all sales proceeds is given directly to the fundraising organization.

TerraCycle also announced today the first participant in the program, St. Pauls United Church of Christ in Milltown, New Jersey. St. Pauls will launch its campaign on September 14, to be led by 30 youth members of its 300 person congregation over a 5-week period to raise money for church programs and activities.

The terracycling process harnesses the natural power of earthworms to recycle solid waste and create Earth Plant Fuel, a fully organic gardening and agricultural product for both consumer and commercial use. Earth Plant Fuel offers a natural, environmentally beneficial alternative to fertilizers that use synthetic and toxic chemicals, promoting healthy, abundant plant growth while eliminating harmful ecological side effects. By creating and using Earth Plant Fuel through the TerraCycle Environmental Fundraising Program, local communities can experience the ecological, financial, and social benefits of terracycling in their own backyards.

Our goal is to achieve a global mission by working on a local level, which is where it counts the most," explained Tom Szaky, CEO of TerraCycle, Inc. The TerraCycle Environmental Fundraising Program makes Earth Plant Fuel a product of the community that ultimately benefits the community itself -- from making its lawns and gardens greener and safer, to raising the funds to support important programs at its schools, churches, and synagogues."

The TerraCycle fundraiser is well-suited to the goals and values of our church," said Reverend Richard Hayes Weyer of St. Pauls United Church of Christ. It allows our members to take an active part in helping our church and our community grow, while motivating them to take a closer look at -- and have a stronger impact on -- Gods environment."

The TerraCycle Environmental Fundraising Program combines a platform for fundraising with a comprehensive educational curriculum, designed to involve program participants in the terracycling process at every level. The program includes:

• Kick-off event or assembly to deliver the materials and launch the fundraising program, run by the TerraCycle team.

• Environmentally-focused lesson plans and activities to further explore the effects of terracycling and Earth Plant Fuel.

• Special worm bins to let participants observe the terracycling process from start to finish -- in some cases, using organic waste from their own cafeterias.

• Bottle rescue" campaign to encourage the collection of discarded plastic drink bottles, which are recycled as packaging for Earth Plant Fuel.

• Customized web site to track program activities, fundraising goals, and sales progress.

• Art materials to design and paint a mural for display at TerraCycles offices and factories. Four murals from participants around the country are selected each year to serve as the background labels for Earth Plant Fuel, and colorfully adorn the shelves of local retailers.

• Closing ceremony at the participating organization, where TerraCycle recognizes top performers and presents an official check with the funds raised from the program.

Schools, community groups, and religious institutions interested in launching their own TerraCycle Environmental Fundraising Program should contact 609-252-9600 for information.
