A satire of race-based reparations movements, WHAT WE OWE THE FLARKS reunites fictional characters Nefertitit Snorkjutt (Snorkjutt's Complaint) and Brummagem Groat (An Interview With the Relativist) in a fictional documentary of the life, times, and descendants of Argyle Flark. Written by Dan Roentsch, the satire follows the travails of Argyle Flark, a slave smuggler who ends up a slave himself on the Erie Canal, working for the mysterious Anna Hossbacher. In the present, Argyle's descendants are demanding reparations not only from the descendants of Anna Hossbacher, but from the descendants of the slaves he smuggled to America!
Dan Roentsch says, "I think a lot of people already sense an element of the absurd in movements that seek reparations from living Americans for something that was done by some people who are dead to other people who are dead. The story of Argyle Flark is a jaundiced tribute to the sorts of characters who make such movements possible."
The satire takes place in the fictitious world in which Belverton University is the home of FLAIR (The Far-Left Alliance of Indignant Revisionists), and where the staff of the Belverton University Press are regular contributors to the LumpenBlog! (LumpenBlog.com)
