Intergeneration Day Approaching: Sunday, October 5 Designated to Celebrate Age-Integrated Activities

Colorado and 28 other states join together to celebrate Intergeneration Day on Sunday, October 5, when individuals and families strengthen communities by focusing on this special time to connect generations. Slated activities include educational and communication-building events such as festivals, seminars, and intergenerational visits. Intergeneration Day culminates Intergeneration Activities Week.

Old and young alike are encouraged to take another generation out to dinner, participate in local Intergeneration Day/Activities Week events, or enter Intergeneration Foundations storytelling contest," says Lisa Miller, Executive Director of Intergeneration Foundation. Such actions actively combat age segregation by allowing the values of each generation to strengthen the others."

Over sixty percent of nursing home residents receive one or fewer visits per year. This seclusion squanders our valuable personal histories and traditions. Intergeneration activities promote stronger appreciation for our cultural heritage, creating connections across generations that reduce age segregation and isolation.

"There is an intergeneration revolution occurring in our culture," declares Sandy Kraemer, President of the Intergeneration Foundation and founder of Intergeneration Day. "Bringing together people of all ages increases everyone's awareness of issues impacting each generation."

Governors from 29 states and Puerto Rico have proclaimed the first Sunday in October as Intergeneration Day, creating a national time to focus on intergeneration experiences and issues. Their goal is to educate and inform individuals and organizations about the overall benefits of connecting generations though intergenerational programs.

Intergeneration Foundation connects generations through communication, celebration and education. It welcomes all who believe that individual family and community success will increase by reaching out to other generations. A 501(c)(3) public charity founded in 1997, Intergeneration Foundation assists with intergenerational events by providing brochures, banners, and other promotional materials for Intergeneration Day events.
