New Façade Improvements on Upper Union Street Near Completion
The First Phase of the Upper Union Street Business Improvement District Redevelopment is nearly Complete. A Ribbon Cutting is Scheduled with Local Politicians.
SCHENECTADY, NY-September 12, 2003-Upper Union Street, a year later construction on the street is completed on the corner of Dean St. and Union St. A ribbon cutting will be held on Wednesday September 17, 2003 at 10:20 a.m.
The construction is complete and Upper Union Street has a new look reminiscent of years past. The façade work includes a central intersection at Dean St. laid out in brick with wrought iron decorative work and landscaping. To add to the by gone feel the Upper Union Street BID will cut the ribbon by driving two 1900 era cars through the ribbon in both directions officially opening traffic on Union Street.
We are very happy with the way the project has turned out," said David Denofio, BID Chairman. The projects end result is well worth the time it took to complete. The street is starting to take on a new appearance and the business owners are taking more pride in the street."
The project is scheduled to continue down the entire merchant corridor. Currently, work is nearing completion on the public parking lot. The Upper Union St. Business Improvement District is seeking additional funds to complete the remainder of the envisioned project. The project was started with funds from Assemblyman Paul D. Tonko (D), the City of Schenectady and the Schenectady Metroplex, all of whom will be on hand at the ceremonies.
