Felipe Bastos takes 2nd in the Tri Orlando Series # 3
I was scheduled to race at the HammerHead Olympic Distance Triathlon this weekend, but due to serious weather conditions ( Cat. 4 Hurricane Henri approaching land) the race was postponed for a week. The new race date is September 14, exactly 2 weeks before my most important race of the season, Atomic man 1/2 Ironman in Knoxville, TN.
I had a great swim and ended up leading Ric Rosenkrantz out of the water by a good margin. I was psyched by the unexpected lead I had on him because Ric is a good swimmer!
During the bike I decided to take it out hard and try and stay away from him, but Ric is an experienced racer with at least 10 more years of experience that I have, and as it turns out he caught me at the bike turn around, and by T2 he had about 25 seconds on me.
I started the run as hard as I could and up until the run turn around I was reeling him in, but when we turned around it seems like I couldn't keep pushing it that hard and I ended up finishing second overall.
This race I learned a lot about mental toughness and how important it is to race with a heart rate monitor. I had never done it before and I had a much more even race than ever before. This is also the result of longer distance training and I feel like my discipline is paying off.
My next races are the HammerHead Olympic Distance Triathlon in Jacksonville September 14th , and Atomic Man 1/2 Ironman on the 28th. For more info on my career, please visit www.eteamz.com/sites/felipebastos .
