Optimum Performance expert and author John Assaraf challenges parents: Are your children really getting the education they need to survive? School Systems are Failing our Children

SAN DIEGO, CA (PRWEB) September 18, 2003 -- Optimum Performance expert and author John Assaraf challenges parents: Are your children really getting the education they need to survive? Will geometry, geography and geology truly serve them when theyre out in the 'real world, trying to make rent or car payments? School systems are geared towards having kids listen, memorize, study, and take tests," laments Assaraf.

The way our educational system is crafted, every child sees a test score that reflects they did wrong, what they didnt know, instead of illustrating what they do know! These judgments pigeonhole our children into certain stereotyped behaviors and ideas of self."

As parents, we can use positive reinforcement with our children to create healthy self-esteem and then truly prepare them for what they will face on their own. There are many talented, brilliant and highly successful icons that havent attended college. People such as Senator John Glenn, Steven Spielberg, Steve Jobs, Peter Jennings and Ted Turner have all made names for themselves and are at the top of their fields...Not from education but by having the self-confidence to follow their ideas and dreams. It is this type of education that is lacking in our school systems, and creating a generation that is ever more crippled when faced with taking care of themselves.

Assaraf is the author of a new book, THE STREET KIDS GUIDE TO HAVING IT ALL (LongStreet Press, August 2003, $21.95). Hes living proof that we can go from nothing to something. As a kid, he ran on the streets of Montreal with a gang, selling and dealing drugs for a living. Now, hes the happy father of two and a legitimate multi-millionaire.

Assaraf explains the first step is to re-wire" our programming. We are programmed with thousands of settings in each area of our lives due to our teachers, parents and past experiences." THE STREET KIDS GUIDE TO HAVING IT ALL introduces a number of techniques and visualization exercises that parents can use to rewire their childrens sense of self -- a necessary tool to ensure their success in the real world."
