Avocents SwitchView SC First and Only KVM Switch Validated by U.S. Government Common Criteria Security Requirements

Only KVM switch to meet NIAP security requirements

Huntsville, AL, (PRWEB) September 17, 2003 -- Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT) today announced that its SwitchView SC is the first and only KVM switch to receive National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) certification, meeting the standards for Common Criteria EAL 4 security requirements, an important factor for U.S. federal, state and local agencies. The Cybex SwitchView SC is specifically engineered to make unintended data transfer between connected computers virtually impossible.

The NIAP is a U.S. Government initiative designed to meet the security testing, evaluation, and assessment needs of both IT producers and consumers. The NIAP goal is to promote the development of technically sound security requirements for IT products and increase the level of trust that consumers have in their information systems and networks.
The Cybex SwitchView SC, available in four-port and eight-port models, is designed for secure government locations where users need to safely switch between classified and unclassified networks. Users who access secure and non-secure networks from only one set of peripherals can connect as many as eight computers and switch without the fear of transferring data or compromising security.

The NIAP EAL 4 certification gives our SwitchView SC another significant advantage over any other KVM switch," said Sid Falling, Avocents director of government sales. Since this is the only KVM switch to receive this certification, the SwitchView SC gives our government customers the reassurance that our switch is approved for secure government installations."

The evaluation was carried out in accordance with the Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) Common Criteria Testing Laboratory processes and procedures that are compliant with the Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS). This evaluation demonstrated that the SwitchView SC 4-Port/2-secure channel switch and the SwitchView SC 8-Port/4-secure channel switch meet the security requirements contained in the Security Target. Complete results of the evaluation can be found in the Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme Validation Report for the Cybex SwitchView SC, Model 520-147-004/Model 520-319-003 prepared by CCEVS. The report is available for review on-line at www.niap.nist.gov/cc-scheme/ST_VID2014.html.
