BBC is evolving with revolutionary speech recognition system

Hemel Hempstead, 16th September 2003 - Telephonetics today announced that it has deployed an Enterprise ContactPortal® - an advanced telephony speech recognition business solution - at BBC Television Centre.

Hemel Hempstead, (PRWEB) September 18, 2003 - Telephonetics today announced that it has deployed an Enterprise ContactPortal® - an advanced telephony speech recognition business solution - at BBC Television Centre. The Enterprise ContactPortal®, suitable for any size or type of organisation, has been initially rolled out to 20,000 staff in various BBCs London premises, with the intention to make the solution available to all of the capitals offices, plus other UK sites. The Enterprise ContactPortal® in London, will enable 30,000 employees to make and transfer calls just by saying the name of the person they want to talk to, both internally and externally.

Chris Bell, Telecoms Engineering Manager at the BBC, commented: We reviewed many products, but with 98% accuracy on speech recognition and because of its ease of use and scalability, the Enterprise ContactPortal® came top of the league. It was also the best managed deployment of an advanced system by a supplier that I have ever been involved with at the BBC. For BBC employees, it now means that they do no longer have to look up internal directories to call colleagues, thus saving time and money. The feedback so far has been excellent, with employees enjoying improved communications".

Anthony McKay, Telephonetics joint MD and owner, who was awarded the BBC Young Scientist of the Year Award in 1980 for his computerised stage lighting system, said: It is a fantastic feeling, over 20 years later to sell one of our products to the BBC. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership".

Paul Welham, Director of Sales and Marketing added: The BBC investing in a speech recognition solution proves that the technology has matured and is now recognised as an effective way of driving businesses forward. Other clients who have recently purchased a ContactPortal® and are reaping the benefits of the technology include Gloucestershire NHS Trust, the legal firm Taylor Walton, the manufacturing company Federal & Mogul and the National Centre For Young People With Epilepsy, plus many more."
