KUA Sponsors Conservation Art Contest
The twelve winning entries will be featured in the utility's 2004 Calendar of Energy Conservation.
KISSIMMEE, Fla., (PRWEB) September 18, 2003 -- In an effort to increase awareness of energy conservation and to encourage individual responsibility for the preservation of our natural resources, Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) is sponsoring its tenth annual calendar art contest for third, fourth and fifth grade Osceola County students. A panel of "celebrity judges" will select twelve entries that will be featured in KUA's 2004 Calendar of Energy Conservation.
American families on average spend nearly $1,300 a year in home energy costs, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Much of the energy we pay for, however, is wasted. In fact, the DOE says the energy wasted through poorly insulated windows and doors is about as much energy as we get from the Alaska pipeline each year. By adopting an energy efficiency plan at home, we can reduce energy bills by 10 to 50 percent while reducing air pollution and preserving energy resources.
DOE research also shows that conservation messages are best targeted at children to help establish a lifetime of good conservation practices.
Every student who submits an entry will be honored with a letter of appreciation, a small prize and a copy of the full-color calendar. The twelve winners will have their artwork featured in the 2004 calendar and receive a $75 cash prize. The calendars will be distributed free of charge in December 2003.
Official entry forms are currently available in the art department of each Osceola County public, private and charter school and at KUA's Customer Service Center, located at 1701 W. Carroll Street in Kissimmee. The deadline for artwork entries is Thursday, October 30, 2003.
KUA is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility serving 61,000 electric, water and Internet customers in five Central Florida counties.
