AutoShutdown makes it easy to log off a user, restart Windows, or shut down your entire computer system, either at a set date and time, after a period of inactivity, or when a hot key is pressed. AutoShutdown gives you one-click access to all of your PC's common power-related features, including shutdown, restart, logoff, standby, hybernating, and lock workstation.

In addition to saving money by powering down inactive computers, AutoShutdown's security features can keep unauthorized people from gaining access to your computer's sensitive information. AutoShutdown can delete files by moving them to the recycle bin, or clean files by over-writing them to ensure that they are
destroyed. The program can empty your recycle bin, delete temporary files, remove cookies, clear history files, remove the list of recently used files from the Start menu, clear the Internet cache, and run any program before you shut down your standalone or networked computer.

The AutoRespond feature lets AutoShutdown automatically answer message windows that appear as you close down your system, whether the dialogs were created by Windows or by your other applications. The program will either respond with the default selections, or you can program it to give specific responses to specific messages.

If your system is networked and you're running Windows 2000 or XP, AutoShutdown lets you power down any of your client machines. It's easy to communicate with other computers on the network. The program lets you create common procedures for all users, or different settings for each user.

AutoShutdown even monitors system resources and will warn you when they are running low, allowing you to shut down the machine, restart Windows, or re-boot the machine. Similarly, AutoShutdown can monitor battery power levels and detect when AC line power is lost on notebook computers, and shut them down gracefully when power runs low.

AutoShutdown can be configured with many security options to prevent users from disabling its functionality on unattended systems. For additional security, the program lets you password protect its control settings, and it produces a computer-specific log of all shutdown activity.

On Windows 2000 and XP, AutoShutdown can be configured as a system service, allowing scheduled shutdown activities to take place even if no user is logged onto the network. Using its two-step idle state checking, the first step can lock a workstation if there is no activity present. When the workstation is
locked, AutoShutdown is still running, and can log off a user or shut down the machine.
