THE AUSTIN SYMPHONY PRESENTS THE WORLD RENOWNED EROICA TRIO

WHO: The Austin Symphony Orchestra presents the Eroica Trio WHEN: October 2 & 3, 2003 -- 8:00 p.m. WHERE: Bass Concert Hall TICKETS: $19 - $35

AUSTIN, TX (PRWEB) September 20, 2003 -- The Austin Symphonys first October Concert boasts a work composed especially for the Eroica Trio, two pieces from Beethoven, and more! Maestro Peter Bay has programmed a high-energy evening of classical music, an ideal setting for the young and energetic Eroica Trio. The trio, which hales from Manhattan, is known the world over for their exquisite technique and pop star looks. The New York Times offers, There is an edge of the seat intensity to every note they produce." For the curious and venturesome, there are pre-concert talks at Bass Concert Hall starting at 7:10 (free with a concert ticket) and a wealth of information on the Symphony website as well.

Audiences around the world respond with standing ovations to what critics call the gusto" and heart stopping mastery" of the Grammy-nominated Eroica Trio. The trio is on the vanguard of a new generation of artists who are changing the face of classical music. One of the first all-female chamber ensembles to reach the top echelons of its field, the Eroica Trio is helping to break an age-old gender barrier. The Trio took its name from Beethovens passionate Third Symphony. Italian for heroic," it is a word that aptly reflects the ensembles approach to their art. While maintaining a demanding concert schedule, the Eroica Trio has released five celebrated recordings for Angel/EMI Classics Records, garnering multiple Grammy nominations. A sixth album is due to be released on October 7th.

Concert Program:
BEETHOVEN    King Stephan Overture, Op. 117
KILAR    Orawa
KASKA    Triple Concerto
BEETHOVEN    Symphony No.7 in A Major, Op. 92

With the notable exception of Beethovens Triple Concerto there are precious few concertos scored for solo violin, cello, and piano with orchestra. The young Boston-based composer Kevin Kaska has set out to fill this opening in the repertoire. The Eroica Trio commissioned Kaska, through the St. Louis Symphony, for the work, and gave the World Premiere of the Triple Concerto in November, 2001. Of this piece, the composer says, I began writing the second movement on September 10, 2001. Of course, the following day made it impossible to continue writing as I had begun. The disastrous events in our country certainly affected me in a very personal way, and they affected the music of the second movement as well." The evenings program also includes two of Beethovens most vivid works, the King Stephan Overture" and Symphony No.7 in A Major". Also on the program is Orawa" by Polish composer Wojciech Kilar. Orawa is one of the most wonderful, exciting works for string orchestra that I know of," says Peter Bay who conducted the Alabama Symphony Orchestras performance of Orawa in January of 2003
