CD Baby artists establish TourBaby: An International Tour of the Best Local Music!

This Baby"Arrives in New York City, at Downtime on Wed. October 1, 2003

New York City (PRWEB) September 22 2003-- A new kind of tour is blazing a trail through New York City - a special showcase put on by and featuring some of the finest independent musicians. Tired of one hit wonders and homogenized corporate radio? A whole world exists beyond the bleak horizons of commercial plastic pop, and TourBaby is your wake-up call. Last year TourBaby crossed 42 cities in four months. This year, from September through December, TourBaby will again go coast-to-coast, expanding in its second year to include Canada. Each show will feature top local artists, including bands "tagging" from city to city, rather than a single touring lineup. "Tag" bands will carry the TourBaby torch (in this case a Baby Doll) from show to show.

Why the unique approach? Hundreds of musicians are banding together to raise awareness of independent music: the music you don't hear on mainstream TV or radio. TourBaby aims to highlight top local bands and artists of all musical styles and genres, and to introduce these musicians to a broader cross-section of the community. "We're out to call attention to all the great music that's right under your nose and in your own backyard," say TourBabys organizers.

"TourBaby is an intimate connection between artist and fans," says founding member Dave Mann. "It's a grassroots co-operative effort created entirely by musicians. The local artists in each community organize each TourBaby concert. Most of us met through CDBaby.com, a popular online record store for independent artists."

TourBaby hits New York City on Wednesday, October 1st, 2003 at Downtime! The performing artists will be Emily Zuzik, Allison Tartalia, Emiko, Lorraine Ferro, G-spot, The Law of Fives and Erin Hill. "The New York City TourBaby show is one you do not want to miss. All these artists are amazing and this promises to be one seriously rockin' evening! With so much talent here in NYC, we wanted to represent as many artists as we could in one evening," says the show's organizer, Gail Silverman.

The New York City showcase kicks off a series of TourBaby events in the tri-state area, with subsequent shows on October 3, & 5 at the Downtown in Farmingdale, NY, and Tierneys Tavern in Montclair, NJ.

There will also be free giveaways and prizes from Women Who Rock, Manic Panic, and the Indie Bible, so stop by for a fantastic evening of fun, free stuff and above all GREAT MUSIC!!

Tickets for this event are only $5.00 at the door. For information, directions, or to hear MP3s of every artist performing, go to www.tourbaby.com or visit the individual artists websites listed below.

TourBaby is sponsored by CD Baby, Women Who Rock Magazine, Manic Panic, and The IndieBible.

TOURBABY 2003 NYC LINE-UP
(October 1, 2003 at Downtime, 251 W. 30th Street, New York, NY, 6pm -- 1am)
Emily Zuzik was named a to-be-watched "Girl Underground" by Women Who Rock Magazine, Emily Zuzik released her solo debut, "The Way It's Got to Be," on Mother's Discontent Music in February 2003. The album received praise from the Village Voice, Rockrgrl Magazine and will be featured as a "DIY Pick" in November 2003's Performing Songwriter Magazine. The multi-range singer has wowed audiences with her dynamic performances, strong voice and catchy rock songs. Songs from "The Way It's Got to Be" will be appearing on the HarrisRadio Brooklyn songwriters compilation, the best of Girl Salon compilation and the Go Girls MusicFest compilation later this year, and the video for her song "Try a New Line on Me" aired nationally in April 2003 on the Trio Network. www.emilyzuzik.com

Allison Tartalia conjures an irresistible potion of rock, jazz, pop, and folk. An intricate piano style, complex rhythms and horn arrangements lend her songs a distinctive twist. In November 2002, Allison released her debut album, "Ready," on her own label, Make Haste! Records. "Ready" received the 2003 Outmusic Award for 'Outstanding Debut Recording - Female' and songs from "Ready" have received honorable mentions from the Billboard and John Lennon Songwriting Contests, and have received radio airplay around the country and in Europe. "Wonder of wonders, this native New Yorker's debut CD sounds legitimately more jazzy than folky--smack-dab in the Laura Nyro/Ricki Lee Jones/Sophie B. Hawkins lineage, complete with sax solos warm enough
for Baker Street . . . " - Chuck Eddy, The Village Voice. www.allisontartalia.com

Emiko is a wild, interactive, and honest experience. Hyper and in your face as much as she is understated and haunting, Emiko's sound is big enough to fill an arena even when she is just whispering in your ear. Emiko blazes up the stage with her funky, phat piano playing. Emiko has appeared in Billboard Magazine and her record "Here Lies Tinkerbell" was number 1 on the New Century Music Heat-seeker's Chart in November, 2002. She was also number 11 on the New Century Music Best Artists of 2002 Review. The Washington Post calls Emiko, cathartic and catchy.... raw rock!!!!" and MTV says that she "sucks you in! She totally sucks you in!!!" www.emikomusic.com

Lorraine Ferro is a 'Ferocious vocalist/songwriter and has been described as Alanis meets Janis", & compared to Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, & even Patty Griffin. She has been featured at: the Philadelphia & Nashville Music Conferences, the Long Island & Hamptons Music Festivals, the 2001 NACA Spring Festival, the Songwriters Hall of Fame Showcases, many colleges, including: Princeton University, NJ, IONA College, NY, Roger Williams U, RI, Coastal College, SC, St. Francis College, PA, among others; the Renaissance Cruise Line, touring Europe and some of the Middle East as headliner; prestigious charts including HITS Magazine's 'Buzzin' Top Twenty' chart, and Ivany's 'Top Twenty One' . Catch Lorraine live, shes fierce; she rocks and commands attention....her band is an in-the-groove, dynamic love affair of song, spirit and delicate thunder." says -Glyn Emmerson - The Island Ear. www.lorraineferro.com

G-spot offers listeners original rock power pop songs with a touch of punk and some funky grooves. Gail and company reel you in and keep your palate wanting to taste more of this infectious groove they have going on. A brazen New York band that deserves
attention and commands it at times" says Rikks Reviews. Live G-spots lead singer, Gail lights up the stage with a powerful voice, fresh provocative songs, & a super sexy hi-energy performance. This is a show you must see for yourself...Gail's stage presence is remarkable, it is as if she transforms into a sensual and sexual, Diva on stage. The crowd is really in tune to the music and you can tell by the smiles on their faces that they are enjoying themselves...When you get the chance stop in and see G-spot, they will not disappoint, and afterwards you'll have the energy to do just about anything...Dennis Halsey, BestFemaleMusicians.com www.gspotband.com

The Law of Fives plays melodic modern, often psychedelic rock with an emphasis on engaging lyrics and melodies, skillful performances and an often-irreverent sense of humor. Performing extensively since 2001, the NYC-based quartet "has diversity, energy, memorable hooks and a big sound (Pat Ferris, HotBands.com)." Boasting "creative songwriting and an amazingly diverse array of keyboards (Reverend Shoebox, Torpedo Magazine)" the Fives guide listeners to the crossroads of imagination and sound. www.thelawoffives.com
