The 2004 San Francisco Writers Conference Gathers
An Impressive Literary Line-Up of Top Authors, Editors and Agents
Catherine Coulter, Dan Millman, Gail Tsukiyama and Terry Ryan are part of the faculty for the SFWC to be held February 13-15th, 2004. The San Francisco Writers Conference will offer networking, writing workshops and an exploration of writing career opportunities for writers. Co-founders Michael Larsen, Elizabeth Pomada and Wendy Nelder promise an event with a foundation in literary excellence.

San Francisco, home of the countrys second largest publishing community, will host a major literary event worthy of its reputation for nurturing great writers. The first San Francisco Writers Conference will take place on Presidents Day Weekend-February 13-15th, 2004-at the venerable Sir Francis Drake Hotel off Union Square in the city.
Over 40 presenters-all top authors, agents and editors-will be on hand at the three-day event. The Rev. Cecil Williams will offer a blessing" to open the conference and also be a presenter at the event. To date the SFWC list of presenters includes: Catherine Coulter, Gail Tsukiyama, Dan Millman, Terry Ryan, Cara Black, Pam Chun, Gwynne Forster, Pat Holt, Aimee Liu, Jill Lublin, D. P. Lyle, Janice Mirikitani, Sharan Newman, Nancy Peters, Bill Petrocelli, Kathleen Antrim, Ishmael Reed, and Penny Warner.
Catherine Coulter will speak on Valentines Day at the conference. Her presentation on romance writing is dubbed, What I Did for Love". (Her book, Blindside, is currently #2 on the NY Times Best Sellers list.) The literary celebrities list also includes Barnaby Conrad, well-known San Francisco bon vivant, author, artist and founder of the Santa Barbara Writers Conference.
The event will be limited to 300 attendees and there are substantial discounts for early registration. Registration is $395 until December 1st, $445 until January 15th, and $495 thereafter. Not only will attendees get to hear and learn from top authors, they will get a good look at the publishing business. The conference will give writers the opportunity to meet editors and agents from New York and the Bay Area including Andree Abecassis, Carole Bidnick, Katherine Boyle, Kimberly Cameron, Nancy Ellis, Cathy Fowler, Candice Fuhrman, Jonothan Harris, Elsa Hurley, Michael Larsen, Stephanie Lee, Jillian Manus, Linda Mead, Randi Glass Murray, Jandy Nelson, Elizabeth Pomada, Veronica Randall, Amy Rennert, Laura Rennert, BJ Robbins, Katherine Sands and Ted Weinstein.
The Womens National Book Association will co-sponsor and host the fourth annual Speed Dating for Agents", a unique way for attendees to pitch their books to a dozen agents in one-on-one, three-minute consultations! Part of the proceeds will go to Omega Girls and Boys Club.
Several SFWC sponsors will have informational tables with writing products and services. Book Passage will create a book store-featuring the presenters books and writing reference books-at the conference.
Elizabeth Pomada, Michael Larsen and Wendy Nelder are the cofounders of the conference. Pomada and Larsen are authors and partners in Larsen-Pomada Literary Agents, the oldest agency in Northern California. Nelder is the former president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and a long-time supporter of the arts. Barbara Santos, co-creator of the Maui Writers Conference, is marketing director of the organizational team. The goal is to provide an extraordinary event with a foundation of literary excellence.
Part of the proceeds of this conference will also benefit the Childrens Book Project and the San Francisco Neighborhood Beautification fund. A limited number of scholarships will be available for college students.
The theme for the conference is 'Building Bridges to Better Tomorrows," Larsen said, because we hope that the conference will benefit the writers, agents, and editors who attend; the publishing community; the city; and readers everywhere. Local groups will host panels about writing and publishing that will give writers the help they need to write, sell and promote their books."
