PARIS, FRANCE - September 26, 2003 - After having successfully implemented Meetic as a benchmark in Europe, ILIUS, Internet Editor of Meetic, is now launching friendset.com(http://www.friendset.com), which is aimed at building networks of friends and managing an "overall organizer".
Based upon the "Six Degrees of Separation" theory (like FRIENDSTER), FRIENDSET allows the building of networks of friends. Derived from the "networking" practice, the site allows users to leverage their network of friends and acquaintances. Registration is free and each new member may invite friends to join him on Friendset.com. Each single connection between two friends will be assessed according 2 variables: the way those two individuals got to know each other (office, family, associations, etc...) and the extent to which they know each other (little bit, well, very well). The more links between the different members belonging to a network, the more dynamic the latter. According to the Six Degrees theory, a link between any two people on earth can be found through no more than six other people. Therefore, the network is building up through friends' networking (for example, the friends of my friends' friends are friends of mine), the building and the management of the "networks of friends" being fully automated.
"Managing networks of friends and schedulling social activities through the use of an 'overall organizer' is a perfectly complementary business to Meetic's," said Marc Simoncini, the founder of ILIUS. "We are going to implement Friendset.com every where we have already successfully developed Meetic using the same means and the same level of involvement; we believe to get over one million registered members by the end of the year, which will prove to be our major technological challenge."
Friendset.com gives the opportunity to manage an "overall organizer" between friends at three different levels. This organizer is a real tool for handling social life.
Friendset.com allows users to :
- Keep in touch with friends
- Get back in touch with old acquaintances, or to find new friends
- Help current friends meet with other persons (co-sharing)
- Organize their social life
A few examples of uses of friendset.com:
- While surfing from one friend to another, I get back in touch with a long-lost childhood friend. I add his name to my list of direct friends and won't lose contact with him once again.
- Two weeks ago, I met a friend's friend over diner and I came across his name on Friendset through the file of our common friend.
- I do not know what to do over the WE and I see on Frienset that a football game will be organized by a friend on Sunday. I select this event in order for me not to forget it.
- On Tuesday evening, I am free for having a drink with a friend, I inform my friends about it and I get a message from Michael who wishes to join us.
- I am flying to New York on vacation. I am trying to find out which friends belonging to my network are living over there in order to call them up for meeting or to get help from them for
accomodation.
