NEW JERSEY AND CONNECTICUT TO CLASH IN FINAL MATCH
OF DESMOND HAYNES TRI-STATE CRICKET CUP 2003

New York, NY (PRWEB)September 24, 2003

The state teams of New Jersey and Connecticut will contest the final match of the MetLife and Western Union sponsored Desmond Haynes Tri-State Cricket Cup. The two teams will face-off each other on Saturday, September 27 at Kenney Park in Hartford, CT. The game starts at 11.00 AM. Directions below.

From all counts, it promises to be a keen contest as both teams have won one game each in the round robin so far. New Jersey will be looking to repeat their win over Connecticut last weekend at home and the latter will be pumped up to avenge that loss. Reports from the venue suggest that Hartford is expecting great cricket weather and lots of support for the home team. The winners check is worth $5000, enough motivation for the players to give it their best.

Cricket fans in the Tri-State area can expect some good performances from both teams. NJ skipper Ketan Patel is in great form scoring a sparkling 98 last weekend. The task for CT skipper and new ball bowler E. Nelson is clear cut -- get Patel out quickly and put pressure on the remaining NJ batting. Other players who will be eager to prove their credentials include NJ all rounder Jignesh Desai, wicket keeper Bilal Haye who is touted as good enough to represent Pakistan in the future. Connecticut all rounders Munawwar Abbas and Mudassar Waqar also have a lot to do in case Connecticut are to win. The will be playing at home and that will be a distinct advantage.

Desmond Haynes, the legendary West Indian opener of the '80s after whom the event is named will be present during the game and will spend time with the players sharing his considerable knowledge and skills.
