Association of Hospitals meets with
State Health Minister, Shri Digvijay Khanvilkar
Mumbai, 26th September, 2003: The Association of Hospitals, a forum of not-for-profit hospitals, headed by Mr. M.L. Bhakta, made a representation to the State Health Minister, Shri Digvijay Khanvilkar today. The Association expressed their anguish at the recent mob-attack on the Bhaktivedanta Hospital and requested the Honble Minister to help find lasting solutions against such attacks on institutions of health.

Mumbai,(PRWEB) 26th September, 2003: The Association of Hospitals, a forum of not-for-profit hospitals, headed by Mr. M.L. Bhakta, made a representation to the State Health Minister, Shri Digvijay Khanvilkar today. The Association expressed their anguish at the recent mob-attack on the Bhaktivedanta Hospital and requested the Honble Minister to help find lasting solutions against such attacks on institutions of health.
The Association of Hospitals representation to the minister requested the mitigation and control of such incidents which are potentially life-threatening to the innocent patients. The Association also requested that all hospitals be declared 'protected under the Essential Services Act, since by their very basic function hospitals are essential to lives of the citizenry.
The Honble Minister for Health expressed his extreme concern for such attacks on public institutions of health and assured the AoH representative body that he would raise the issue at the appropriate levels to ensure effective and fast redressal.
Mr. M.L. Bhakta, President of Association of Hospitals, said that such attacks on hospitals was an infringement on the fundamental rights of the patients. He said that no reason can ever justify the attack behind any public healthcare institution and irrespective of the reason of the attack, it violated the patients right against exploitation. Based on the discussions held with the Honble Health Minister, he held the firm conviction that quick and concrete steps from the government could be expected in this regard.
