WJ Communications Introduces the Industry's First Integrated Variable Gain Amplifiers - VGA's; Two New Products Provide Ideal Solutions for Gain Control Circuits

First in the Industry - Variable Gain Amplifiers offer High IP3 and low-cost solutions.

(Nasdaq:WJCI), a leading designer and supplier of high-performance RF semiconductors and multi-chip modules (MCMs), today introduced a new line of variable gain amplifiers (VGAs) with the launch of the VG101 and VG111 products. The designs are intended for transmitter and receiver automatic gain control circuits (AGC) and as variable gain blocks following low-noise amplifier stages in high dynamic range receiver front-ends. WJ is the first to integrate high performance amplifiers and attenuators within a single, surface mount package optimized for wireless infrastructure and other telecommunications applications.

Technology Overview
The VG101 and VG111 are the industry's first integrated VGAs that maintain constant intercept & compression point performance over the entire gain control range. Today's discrete solutions are typically much more complex and require relatively large amounts of board area. Special features include a wide dynamic range (over 35 dB) and a 4.3 dB noise figure at maximum gain. These products operate from a single positive bias supply. Both models are matched to 50 ohms over the full attenuation range to ensure proper operation when cascaded with other RF elements such as filters. The combination of gain, NF, attenuation and IP3 make these devices the best-in-class for base station transmitter and receiver chains that process complex digital modulation formats such as CDMA, GSM, PCS & UMTS. The VG101 and VG111 are housed in a 28-pin, 6x6 mm QFN package.
