Californian Satirist Releases the Recallist Papers
Californian satirist Edward Bowers will chronicle the short desperate
history of libertarians trying to make the most of the recall of Governor Davis by posting a collection entitled "The Recallist Papers" on the Internet.
Edward Bowers is a lifelong freedom advocate and joined the Executive
Committee (Board of Directors) of the Libertarian Party of California (LPC) at their annual state convention in February of 2003. During that same convention the Party passed a resolution supporting the recall of Governor Gray Davis. At that time, the Recall Davis effort consisted of two main groups, one lead by Howard Kaloogian, Former State Assemblyman, and another lead by Ted Costa and the People's Advocate, an organization born out of Proposition 13. It was in the spirit of Prop. 13 that the Libertarians joined the movement and by the end of March, the People's Advocate had put the recall petition into circulation. The first task for Bowers, as the new Media Relations Chair of the LPC, was to write a press release announcing their resolution.
That was the first of many press releases, articles, emails, and letters to the editor produced by Bowers about the recall with an eye on the prize of a smaller government that won't threaten to pay for its wasteful spending and borrowing with higher taxes. With the October 7 election near, Bowers has collected all of these communications under the title "The Recallist Papers," a nod to the Federalist Papers published in 1787 and 1788 to promote ratification of the Constitution, and posted them as part of his What's Wrong With This Picture?
