UKinsite Targets Bad Web Design

Bad or over-complex website design means that many companies are just one click away from losing users and prospective customers. A solution is now available in the form of a new company, UKinsite, which helps other organisations build websites that are based on user needs.

What do fighter aircraft and websites have in common? More than you might think, according to Dr. Mark Newman, Director of UKinsite.

Dr. Newman spent several years working in Aviation and Defence, before moving to lead teams in commercial projects. He explains: At the heart of many Defence projects is the requirement to understand what the operator is trying to do – and why they are doing it. We use the same approach to understand how people use websites. Models of task analysis and information-flow let you identify problems areas long before your site ‘goes live."

UKinsite, which launched recently at the University of Warwick Science Park, UK, was set up to meet the demand for better website design. Dr. Newman notes: Many websites are still too difficult to use, losing prospective customers because of bad design. There has been a recent trend of trying to make sites more usable, but few people have much experience in the Psychology of human-computer interaction. At UKinsite we provide consultancy and design services by drawing on our experience and training, not just ‘gut instincts."

UKinsite would like to hear from organisations whose websites have failed to live up to expectations and would prefer to see a substantial return on their investment. For further information contact Mark Newman at UKinsite – tel: +44 (0)24 7632 3095, e:mark@ukinsite.com, or visit the website at www.ukinsite.com.
