Help your readers get the best value at Gettysburgs 140th Anniversary!

This July 1-3, 2003, Gettysburg celebrates its 140th anniversary. There are several options to tour the battlefield. Here is a quick guide to help your readers choose:

There are four different ways to tour Gettysburg. Here is a summary of each.

Tour Option 1: Gettysburg Expedition Guide
Price for a family of four: $29.95
Tour Features: The Expedition Guide includes a self-guided driving tour (tape or CD), a 56-page illustrated guidebook and a computer CD-ROM. Narrated by a highly sought-after licensed battlefield guide, the audio tour captures the essential stories while the guidebook provides useful battle maps and historic photographs. The CD-ROM has animated battle maps, a history movie, Civil War tactics module, 3-D weapons, travel information, virtual tours and more. The best way to describe this tour is Gettysburg in a box." The tour takes approximately two hours, but you can stop and explore the battlefield as many times as you wish.
How to order: www.TravelBrains.com or (888) 458-6475

Tour Option 2: Bus Tour
Price for a family of four: $73.70 - $87.80
Tour Features: A licensed battlefield guide narrates the bus tour. Depending on the guide, it can be outstanding or mediocre. The bus tour lasts two hours and usually makes one or two stops depending on the schedule. If you like sitting back and letting somebody else do the driving, this is the option for you. If you have kids along and want to get out and explore the battlefield, you might consider a self-guided option.
How to order: Call the battlefield Visitor Center at (877) 438-8929

Tour Option 3: Licensed Battlefield Guide
Price for a family of four: $40 for a two-hour tour. Additional charges apply if you go over the two-hour limit.
Tour Features: Like the bus tour, depending on the battlefield guide assigned to you, the tour can be very good or mediocre. For civil war buffs looking for a specialized tour of the battlefield, this is the ideal way to go. Battlefield guides will typically make only one or two stops to get out of the car and explore due to the two-hour time limit, something to consider when traveling with children.
How to order: Call the battlefield Visitor Center at (877) 438-8929

Tour Option 4: Standard Tape/CD Tour
Price for a family of four: $11-$17
Tour features: This is the least expensive tour option. However, many of the standard tape tours are old and difficult to understand without good battle maps to show you where you are and where the fighting took place. Consider purchasing a set of battle maps to help you orient yourself on the battlefield, if you decide to go this route.
How to order: Purchase at the battlefield Visitor Center bookstore
