LTrix Engineering Introduces lice 1.7, a Patchless Linux Kernel Debugger, at LinuxWorld
Advanced version of debugger lends efficiency to x86 platform developers
January 22, 2002 – New York, NY. – LTrix Engineering, a developer of Linux kernel mode tools based in Custer, Wash., today announced version 1.7 of lice, a patchless, remote source-level debugger for engineers developing device drivers, porting Linux to embedded systems and customizing the kernel. Implementing a modern user interface, lice significantly reduces the time to identify and fix errors.
We have spoken with many engineers who are unsatisfied with the current state of Linux kernel debugging," said Tom Ramsdell, LTrix Engineering's chief technology officer. Other available debuggers are often frustrating to use due to a number of factors. These range from patching the kernel to arcane and deficient user interfaces. Most engineers and managers can appreciate a professional and reliable debugger that can help improve product quality and decrease time to market. That is why we created lice."
lice 1.7 new features include:
- C and assembly step over "call" instruction
- Enhanced "Disassembly Window"
- Disabling of breakpoints
- Red Hat 8.0 compatibility
- Auto-detection of the user/kernel memory boundary
- Ability to "break" the target after lice loads

About LTrix Engineering
LTrix Engineering provides Linux kernel mode tools for the professional engineer. LTrix Engineering was founded by engineers who needed a kernel mode debugger but found
no complete professional tool being actively developed and maintained, so they created their own – lice. LTrix is filling the gap between the collective efforts of the Linux community and the commercial businesses whose products run on or are powered by Linux.
