EZConserve Delivers Latest Version of its Energy-Saving Utility
Version 1.4 of the Surveyor Network Energy Manager is released to the same customers that have been driving its development
Portland, OR -- EZConserve Inc, developers of a patent-pending software utility that saves energy and money in large computer networks, has released the latest version of its product to waiting customers.
The Surveyor network energy manager is an enterprise utility that synchronizes and manages the power options of Windows-based PCs. The software schedules when and where power management policies are to be used on network PCs, making todays power management much more accessible and user friendly. It invisibly switches between a series of unique power profiles" that are appropriate for both specific times of day and the type of user at work on the machine. Aimed at organizations with 300 to 30,000 PC-using workers, Surveyor ends an energy waste that has risen continually in recent years, until it averages over 30 billion kilowatt-hours a year in the US alone.
The newest Surveyor release fulfills EZConserves original vision for the product by adding an integrated reporting function that details energy consumption and cost throughout the network, which represents 7% to 12% of an organizations total energy consumption. This allows the manager in charge of Surveyor to determine, for the first time, how much energy is being consumed by the network on a daily, monthly, or yearly basis. In addition, a free add-on utility allows this person to see what network consumption and costs would be if new power management policies were introduced, by creating comprehensive what if" scenarios that can be compared to actual usage patterns.
At the same time, the new version dramatically expands its marketing reach by supporting every Windows-based operating system in use today, including Windows NT, 95, 98, 2000 and XP.
Additional new features came at the request of the diverse set of organizations that have field-tested Surveyor since the products first release in January 2002, including Oregon State University, Portland Public Schools, the City of San Jose, Mt Hood Community College, Metro, Mt San Antonio College in Walnut, California, and others. These features include built-in asset inventory and management tools, which were needed to simplify the deployment of Surveyor to large numbers of PCs. An additional benefit of this functionality is that IT departments who have been unable to justify the purchase of high-end asset management software now have access to a tool that lists all their networks PCs by a multitude of names and identities, and shows the processor, operating system, BIOS, and RAM details of each network PC.
According to Kent Dunn, EZConserves director of sales, the new release satisfies the requests of the dedicated customers and partners that have been putting Surveyor through it spaces in different environments since early
2002. This new release makes Surveyor a truly market-ready product on two fronts: as an energy conservation measure, and as an asset management tool for the IT community that gives them specific non-energy benefits. This is now a product that delivers value to all stakeholders."
