Settlers Handbook for the U.S. Virgin Islands Now Available
Guide for Settling in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Also a guide for moving a business to the USVI outlining tax incentives, etc.
If you're tired of being cold and youre ready to trade in the electric blanket for a beach blanket in the sunny Caribbean, a new book on the U.S. Virgin Islands market answers your relocation questions or just lets you fantasize about sun and sea long after the vacation ends.
The long-awaited revision of Settlers Handbook for the U.S. Virgin Islands is now on sale on St. Croix, St. Thomas and on St. John, at the St. Thomas/St.John Chamber of Commerce and on line at http://www.visitstcroix.com/living_or_moving_here, www.visitstthomas.com/, or www.visitstjohn.com/. The publication is available at wholesale to realtors and to companies with employees relocating to the US Virgin Islands, according to Linda Bruton, the new Publisher/Owner and 12-year resident of St. Croix.
While working at the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce, Bruton realized a definite need for this book. People called the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce and St.Thomas/St.John Chamber for relocation information and since updated information wasnt available, Bruton decided to fill the void. She began her research and discovered the owners of the publication, Settlers Handbook for the U.S. Virgin Islands, were willing to sell the rights to the book. The book has been around some 30 years and hadnt been updated for seven years. "The Settlers Handbook for the U.S. Virgin Islands is very helpful," said Bruton, "because it provides a wealth of information on how to move here, what to expect (local humor thrown in), how to move your car, how to register it, how to move pets, whether to buy, rent or build, realtor info, a brief overview of history and culture, churches, schools, health care, inter-island transportation and the marine industry."
After seven months of researching and revamping, and with the help of various government departments to confirm information, including incentives and tax benefits for relocating a business to the Territory, licensing requirements and the Internal Revenue Bureau, and calling utilities for their rates, checking all the old phone numbers in the book, getting new pictures, and reading through tons of proofs, the book is now available to the public. While things change quickly in the territory, this book has tried to be generic wherever possible.
The Settlers Handbook for the U.S. Virgin Islands is useful to those visiting the islands or considering settling here, or for those already here, and provides an objective look at living, working or investing in the U.S. Virgin Islands. For the visitor, it should help you Meet the Virgins" and explore them with a greater awareness. The book can be ordered on-line for $15.95, including shipping.
