Digital TV Series shoots despite the Blizzard in Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland, OH –January 26, 2003 - - January 26 is the Super bowl and in Cleveland, it is a blizzard like day that is being compared to the Blizzard of 1978 that brought the city to a stand still. Yet, the indie movie company Prelude2Cinema is shooting a scene for the digital TV Series Out of Darkness.” Teenage actress Diana Bringard traveled two and a half hours from Bellevue, Ohio to shoot a scene. The scene was supposed to take place with her being interrogated by a police officer about a missing classmate and she is rescued” at the end by a Prosecutor who may have more than a friendly interest in her. The actor playing the cop got snowed in, so the scene was rewritten to have the Prosecutor interrogate her alone. This caused somewhat of a dilemma for the actor playing the Prosecutor because he is also the creator of the series and the director of the pilot. Emmy winning writer Alex P. Michaels was only supposed to be a cameo figure in the pilot, but his character, Prosecutor George Bailey Raft, is having more of a key role due to scheduling conflicts.

Prelude2Cinema started shooting in November 2002 and hopes to have the pilot wrapped by February 2003, edited and out to some networks. Out of Darkness” is based on Michaels Emmy winning TV Movie What Angels Fear.” The series will also feature ties to the digital features Prelude2Cinema has been shooting over the last few years in Cleveland.

So, why shoot in Cleveland, Ohio and not Sunny LA? Alex P. Michaels was born in Cleveland and believes the city has a lot of potential. He studied screenwriting at Stanford University and filmmaking at DeAnza in California, but came back home to build his digital studio. Out of Darkness” will feature a storyline concerning Elliot Ness when he was the safety director of Cleveland and his failed attempt to catch one of the first serial killers in US history. The killer, who was never caught, left body parts of his victims. The first was a torso of a woman. The killings were known as the "Kingsbury Run Murders" and the "Torso Murders."

The torso murders will tie into Out of Darkness” which is a one-hour drama about a Latina homicide detective who cant sleep because when she gets tired, a dark force over takes her body and goes about literally devouring criminals. Detective Teresa Maria de los Angelos a.k.a. Angie is played by New York Actress Lorraine Rodriquez. In the opening scenes of the pilot, Angie chases a suspect down a rainy street. There is a scuffle and the suspect shoots her in the mouth. She awakes in her apartment thinking she dreamed it, till she sees a half eaten skull on her floor.

Prelude2Cinema is seeking sponsors for the series which will be one of the few American shows to feature a Hispanic lead. Each episode will be in English, but feature some Spanish and later an entire episode will be in Spanish. Since Hispanics are now the largest minority, this should add to the appeal of "Out of Darkness." "Angie's culture is very much a part of who she is. Working with Lorraine who is Puerto Rican has brought a lot of authenticity to the series. The Series has an edge and all the characters walk the line between good and evil."

Prelude2Cinema hopes that the attention given to hard-core” cop shows like The Shield” will help it. Since "Out of Darkness" is based on an Emmy winning movie and is the first TV Series shot completely in Cleveland, Ohio it should be of interest to businesses and people who really believe in the growing filmmaking community in Cleveland.

In addition to the Series, Prelude2Cinema has been trying to strengthen the movie community by starting a networking group named Indie Cleveland. In order for Out of Darkness” to work here, it is going to take the community believing that this town can support a TV Series,” says Emmy winning Alex P. Michaels. While I was happy the scene worked out pretty well today. Were going to wait till the snow ends to start shooting the series.
