According to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America, colitis is marked by inflammation and ulceration of the colons innermost lining. Tiny ulcers, form on the surface of the lining, where they bleed and produce pus and mucus. Because the inflammation makes the colon empty frequently, symptoms typically include diarrhea and abdominal pain.
There is no cure for this chronic disease. Medication only suppresses the bodys inflammatory response. Some, like Bush, choose to have their colons permanently removed. Assaraf, however, took a different route.
