KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Telstra is one of the highest valued telcos in the world.

Flat growth for Telstra until approximately 2007. This will further erode its market share as the overall market will grow three to four times faster.

Optus has given a strong performance under strong leadership, but is too reliant on services that will have shrinking profit margins (fixed voice, corporate data, mobile).

AAPT set to come back in 2004; however will they be able to turn new growth into profits as the margins in the fixed voice market are very low.

Vodafone still under pressure to deliver more solid financial performance; remains marginal.

Hutchison will only be able to deliver an ROI this side of 2010 if it treats 3G as an ordinary mobile service and offers much stronger price competition.

State government and local governments will increase their role, using their social vision to push broadband infrastructure into their communities.
