WNBA Stars to host youth basketball camp in Charlotte.

Tiffani Johnson a rising star in the Womens National Basketball Association (WNBA) will host a 2-day basketball camp October 4th and 5th here in her hometown at the First Ward Recreation Center located at 610 East Seventh Street.

(PRWEB) October 1, 2003 --Tiffani Johnson a rising star in the Womens National Basketball Association (WNBA) will host a 2-day basketball camp October 4th and 5th here in her hometown at the First Ward Recreation Center located at 610 East Seventh Street. Johnson will be joined by fellow Houston Comets teammate, Tina Thompson along with Charlotte Sting player Tynesha Lewis. The event is sponsored by the Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation Department and My Lil Star Diapers.

The First Annual Tiffani Johnson Girls Basketball Camp and Coaches Clinic will include skill demonstrations and lectures by Johnson. It will focus on the essential fundamentals of the game, such as ball-handling, offensive and defensive techniques as well as rebounding skills. All campers will have the opportunity to attend an autograph session with the WNBA stars, as well as participate in swimming sessions and educational workshops focusing on computer training.    I grew up at the YMCA so I wanted to host this camp at a community center where a lot of underprivileged kids frequent," commented Johnson. This is my home town, so I try to do as much as I can, to give back."    She received a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from University of Tennessee and has plans to work in a social services career to help children after her basketball career has ended.

Johnson will also award a scholarship to the Garinger High School student athlete that accumulated the highest number of points in community service, sports and academics. We decided to develop a points system to make it fair. Students can earn points in various areas to receive the award," Johnson added.

The recipient will receive money to assist them with their book purchases during their freshman year of college. This is the 3rd year that Johnson has provided the scholarship.

About Tiffani:
Tiffani is a graduate of Garinger High School where she earned high-school All-American Honors. Tiffani has also won championships on national and world stages (Carolina AAU, University f Tennessee at Knoxville Lady Vols and Four Time WNBA World Champions, Houston Comets). Presently, Tiffani's desire is to win by giving back to her community.
