Process: A Rare Glimpse at the Act of Creation

Opening October 17, 2003 in Southeast Portland Curated by the Portland Center for the Advancement of Culture

Portland, OR (PRWEB) October 2, 2003 -- Following the heels of its widely successful Modern Zoo show, the Portland Center for the Advancement of Culture (PCAC) opens the next of its seasonal shows -- Process -- on Friday, October 17, from 7 - 12 pm in southeast Portland with live music and multimedia entertainment. Location will be announced.

Process will feature the dynamic genres of a rock opera, theater, film, photography, animation, and illustration to document the creative processes of six local artists. The show offers a look behind the painting to the painter, through the collage artist at its creator and more, and illuminates the creative momentum that drives each artist as well as the final piece that results.

For the multidisciplinary Process show, PCAC invited six artists to choose a documenter, someone close or familiar, who could capture the creative process behind their work and present it in varied forms. Established and emerging, these artists were chosen for their diverse and accomplished bodies of work but just as much for their varying personalities. Likewise, the documenters are an assorted group. They are: damali ayo (mixed media) with James Moore (theater); Kim Hamblin (mixed media) with Tracy Olson (photographer); Kevin Gilmore (collage/painter) with Ovid Media (film); Liz Obert (encaustic) with Amy Honeyman (illustrator); Bill Park (painter) with Suzanne Twining (animator); Zefrey Throwell (painter) with Joe Haege (rock opera).

Process gives the public an opportunity to glimpse into the usually private world of work in progress" and expands the scope of how art can be viewed by pairing the conceptual machinery with the final product. Special openings will be held during the shows seven-week run for documenters with live performance pieces.
