Manipal Enterprises launches the Manipal Global Nursing Program

- to send 500 nurses to the US by 2006

Bangalore(PRWEB) October 1 2003: The Manipal Global Nursing Program (MGNP) was inaugurated here today by Mr. Bill Lawrence, President, University Hospital Health System- Richmond Heights Hospital, Brown Memorial Hospital and Memorial Hospital of Geneva. The Manipal healthcare network, which has 7,000 beds across 11 hospitals, is one of the largest trainers of nurses in the country.

The hospital has designed a unique, comprehensive program that covers all the requirements for a nurse from India to work in some of the largest and sophisticated hospitals in the US or any other developed country. Through the MGNP Manipal aims to send 500 nurses to the USA by 2006.

Mr. Bill Lawrence speaking at the inauguration of the MGNP said, The hospitals back in the US need an army of qualified nurses to fill up the growing demand. India is the right sourcing country. Manipal with its huge infrastructure in Healthcare and expertise to train the right kind of nursing personnel has made serious inroads in this new area. We are very excited to work with Manipal in this program. Hospitals in the US will be happy to recruit the Manipal nurses. They are ready to work in our specialty, high tech hospitals".

The Manipal Global Nursing Program is only a beginning. 250 nurses graduate every year from the Manipal schools and colleges of Nursing. Also Manipal employs more than 2,500 nurses in the Manipal Healthcare Network. This initiative gives an opportunity for a global career to these nurses, and to nurses working in other hospitals".

Nurses aspiring to go to the USA must have a basic qualification of General Nursing & Midwifery of 3 years or a B.Sc. (Nursing) of 4 years in addition to a minimum of 2 years of hospital bedside experience. They have to clear CGFNS (Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools) exam as well as IELTS (International English Language Testing System). Subsequently they have to clear the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses) on being employed in the USA.

Qualified Indian nurses who pass their CGFNS & IELTS examinations, and who receive good training can look forward to a satisfying professional career in the US. The demand at the moment is huge. Career growth, excellent pay packages and good working environment makes it attractive for Indian nurses to look at the US", commented Mr. BN Manohar, CEO, Manipal Infocom who is leading the program.
