"Venetian Carnival" Closing Reception for French Artist PHILIPPE SOLER in Long Beach, CA Oct 4
French artist PHILIPPE SOLER exhibits paintings in Long Beach, CA on October 4, 2003 from 6-9pm
Inspired by his work at the Cathedral of Notre Dame, the Louvre and other historic monument restoration projects, French figurative painter PHILIPPE SOLER's experience belies his age.
Designing, carving and casting in resin, fiberglass, limestone and marble, "Venetian Carnival" strokes his subjects in a different medium. After sculpting for churches, museums, and abbeys in styles from Renaissance to Baroque, SOLER came to the rues of America, specifically Southern California, to paint in his own terms. And that he does, when you realize that by standing in the midst of the exhibition, you are surrounded by his friends, unmasked in oil on canvas.
According to curator Goria Holdrege of BRAG Studios and Beare Romance Art Gallery, SOLER "is a protagonist of reality, devoid of Aristolean meaning." The handsome painting of "Philippo" is just one example.
PHILIPPE was recently interviewed for TPS Radio and LBCTelevision by Marie-Jo Machefert (also from France) at Gallery Eleven/Seven in Long Beach's East Village Arts District. The gallery's distinctive lighting captures both day and night light, illuminating the silver and gold leaf. SOLER not only utilizes the background of each subject, you are also drawn in by the free-thinker's frame.
The public is invited to the closing reception and guests will enjoy music from Poverty Level Records, a wonderful taste of Frenchy's Bistro Restaurant, and wine from the South of France.
