IIPM - Now in Mumbai
IIPM
: The Delhi based Indian Institute of Planning & Management (IIPM) is spreading its wings beyond Delhi. It has opened a new chapter in Mumbai last month. The admission process for a masters in business administration has just begun and the new MBA/BBA session will commence in August. The first batch will consist of 60 students. IIPM's MBA and BBA degrees are conferred by the International Management Institute, Belgium with which it has a strategic alliance.
IIPM was established in 1973 with the aim of initiating training and research on problems of development for realising planned national objectives. Says Prof. A. Sandeep, dean, Centre for Advanced Consulting & Research, "Planning has always been at the core of our programmes, which study and analyse problems of development of the private and public sectors against the background of national economic planning. This helps translate plans into physical reality"
IIPM has an MBA batch size of 220-240 full time and 25 part-time students. "We have a good record of placements. This year over 60 firms recruited from the campus, including big names like PriceWaterhouse Coopers, Hyundai, HSBC, and GE Capital. Around 20 per cent of the companies were first-time recruiters. Despite the slowdown in the IT sector, technology remained one of the largest recruiting sectors accounting for 25 per cent of the total offers," says Prof. Sandeep.
With its focus on human development and macro economic growth, IIPM has an extensive focus on papers related to economics. As part of its natural economic planning techniques (NEPT) IIPM has for the last four years also been running a rural development programme in Orissa and West Bengal. Under its Global Opportunity and Threat Analysis (GOTA) programme, many leading organisations like the UN, World Bank, ILO and Nestle, have been sponsoring students for undertaking projects and research assignments in Europe and the US.
