India People Living with HIV / AIDS: Leadership for Results Programme - INP+, NACO, IIPM, UNDP
A presentation on Information and Communication Technology for People Living with HIV/AIDSs was made by Sunil Abraham of MAHITI.ORG at this event. This included an overview of the impact of intellectual property on development practice as well as a demo of the free software - Plone.

Background
In response to the HIV / AIDS crisis and the UNGASS call for strengthened leadership to address the epidemic. UNDP has developed a Leadership for Results programme, which is being offered to key constituencies involved at all levels of the HIV / AIDS response in countries and regions around the world. This Leadership for Results programme recognises and draws upon the potential ability of all individuals to lead and influence others and to bring about change – within their families., communities, workplaces and wider society – and seeks to harness this potential to support individuals, communities and organisations in reaching out, scaling up responses and impacting the HIV / AIDS epidemic. Therefore, the programme employs transformative methodologies to help participants access and build upon their personal commitement; develop their leadership capacity and their understanding of how they can address HIV / AIDS in all aspects of their lives; and foster their leadership capacity and their ability to influence others and work collaboratively with other committed leaders to address the underlying causes of HIV /AIDS.

PLWHA are a key constituency who can inspire hope in others and play a central role in all aspects of the response to the HIV / AIDS epidemic. Therefore, in 2003, UNDP, in partnership with the Indian Network for People Living with HIV / AIDS (INP+) and the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) are offering a People Living with HIV / AIDS: Leadership for Results Programme for PLWHA leaders from across India. This programme will be a year long process aimed at developing the capacity of PLWHA – as individual and as a community – to reach out to and influence others, in order to scale up responses and contain the HIV / AIDS epidemic. The programme will be initiated by a four day seminar to be held in New Delhi, on 5th - 8th May, which will bring together 120 leaders of PLWHA groups from across India. At this seminar projects will be identified and initiated by participants to be developed throughout the year. These projects will be supported by further leadership and capacity building seminars, as well as ongoing coaching and technical support.

Purpose of the seminar
To develop the personal leadership capacities of participants and enhance their ability to influence others and build commitment, both within the PLWHA movement and at all levels of the response, to address the key issues of concern to PLWHA. In addition, the seminar is intended to build the skills and understanding of participants in the area of organisational development and management, towards the development of stronger and more effective PLWHA groups and networks.

Participants
Hundred and twenty PLWHA leaders holding key positions within PLWHA groups and organisations around the country and committed to advocating for the needs of PLWHA and impacting the HIV / AIDS response.

Content and format of the seminar
The content of the seminar will focus on identifying key issues facing participants and developing new and deeper perspectives, approaches, skills and commitements among the participants, drawing on cutting edge models from the corporate and development sectors. This will include work around developing emotional intelligence competencies, transforming organisations, their perspectives and ways of working, and generating commitement in ourselves and others.

The format of this seminar will be highly interactive with a strong emphasis on group work and on participants bringing their own experience to the sessions, playing an active role in all sessions and taking responsibility for their own learning and development. The seminar will be facilitated by Jon Love, a leading transformation expert, with support from IIPM and PLWHA co-facilitators. There will also be a specific sessions led by other partners.
