Sit; Stay; Read -- Heres a New Concept in Pet Publications
Want to spend more quality time with your four-legged friend? Central Florida publisher Kim Cousins wants to help. With the expected November release of Orlando Unleashed, Cousins has created a new concept in localized magazines for pet owners.
Initially a quarterly publication, each issue will contain information on pet friendly Central Florida venues where dogs and their human companions are welcome together (as long as the four legged ones are wearing leashes - what a recent Blondie comic strip called a partners walking aid"). Along with the localized information, Orlando Unleashed will feature up-to-the-minute articles and regular columns written by experts on the fields of health, safety, development, training and family relationships. Some of the planned regular columns include:
Bone Appétit, pet friendly restaurants
Pet-strology, horoscopes for pets
Legal Beagle, readership Q&A on pet-related legal matters
Dog Park Reviews (focusing on off-leash" locations)
Dog Dos & Cat Clippings, grooming tips, and more.
A calendar of events, focusing on local pet-friendly happenings, Pawspective (the featured topic) and a column showcasing pet-friendly area hotels will round out each issue.
We want to share pet friendly locations and establishments with pet owners to augment their relationships with their companions and to enhance the life of their pets," said Cousins.
If the concept, and the magazine, catches on, Cousins hopes to expand it into a monthly, and then to reach into other major metropolitan areas. Id like to eventually see Miami Unleashed, Tampa Unleashed and maybe spread into other urban centers around the country," Cousins said. But, for now, I want to focus on the Orlando area and work to make this the best publication we can. After all, its the first of its kind."
