Borrowing a strategy out of the Sierra Club's own playbook, John Kerry supporters are turning the table on the nation's largest environmental advocacy group, using the internet to petition the influential group to endorse their candidate for president.
"With the democratic primary full of candidates and most of the attention focused on Iraq, many people don't really know where the candidates stand on the environment," explains Kerry volunteer, Jim Witkins. "We wanted a way to highlight John's amazing accomplishments and environmental vision for our future. Compare Kerry's record to any other candidate. It's really no contest! If the Sierra Club hopes to make the environment an issue at all in this next election they would be wise to back a candidate soon."
Kerry supporters say the idea is to send a message to the leaders of the Sierra Club asking them to take action and send a signal to their 742,000 members that John Kerry is the leader with the most comprehensive vision for America's environment.
"If you want clean air and water, smarter energy policies, protection for endangered habitat, and progress on global warming John Kerry is your presidential candidate," adds Joe Melloy, another Kerry volunteer.
